Unexpected Loss
There are no words that can adequately express the sorrow that the St. Maria Goretti Catholic School community is feeling today. Last night, our school Counselor, Mrs. Robin Handler, passed away suddenly. Our school mourns the loss of Mrs. Handler who has been a part of the Goretti school community since August of 2021. Her unwavering dedication to the well-being Goretti’s students exemplified her true passion. Always prioritizing the needs of our students, Mrs. Handler's impact on their lives will remain a lasting testament to her exceptional commitment.
We understand that processing this news and navigating the days ahead will be challenging for all of us. However, in these difficult times, coming together and supporting one another is paramount. As we collectively grieve, it is crucial that we lean on each other for strength and solace.
When an adolescent experiences a loss it may stimulate feelings about other deaths they have experienced, concerns about losing the people they love, and questions regarding death. I encourage you to discuss Mrs. Handler’s death with your child. Below you will find talking points and resources.
When we return to school on January 3, we will have support resources available for students, faculty, and staff. In the event that your student is struggling and needs support immediately, you or your student can contact the 988 hotline.
Please keep the entire Handler family in your prayers during this difficult time.
Yours in Christ,
Dr. Amy Summers, Principal
