Meet Our New Faculty & Staff!
St. Maria Goretti High School is pleased to introduce seven new faculty and staff members for the 2017-2018 school year. Please join the rest of the Goretti family in welcoming these professionals to our school!
Mr. Cosentino joins the administration as our new President. Mr. Cosentino resides in Smithsburg, MD with his wife Dawn, son Eric, daughter Emily, and dog Elvis. Mr. Cosentino is no stranger to Goretti, coming from previously serving as the Associate Superintendent for Secondary Schools and Government Programs in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Previously, Mr. Cosentino has experience as a teacher, athletic director, dean of students, and principal. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology and Philosophy from Seton Hall University and a Master’s of Arts in Systematic Theology from LaSalle University. A fun fact about Mr. Cosentino… He is a passionate and lifelong Philly sports team fan!
Mrs. Carbaugh joins the administration as Director of Institutional Advancement and will work closely alongside Mr. Cosentino and the marketing department to take Goretti to the next level. Most recently Mrs. Carbaugh worked as a grant writer/circuit rider for the Maryland Rural Development Cooperation and additionally volunteered for a variety of non-profits, including Girls, Inc. and Rotary. A fun fact about Mrs. Carbaugh… She graduated from Goretti in the Class of 1993 alongside her husband of 19 years! Together they have two children at Goretti and one first-grader at St. Mary’s Catholic School.
Mr. Baranowski joins the Social Studies Department as new History Teacher for the World History, Government, and AP Government classes. Mr. Baranowski graduated from Wheeling Jesuit (WV) in 2015, where he graduated with a bachelors degree in History and minored in Philosophy. He comes from a two-year stint as the top assistant and JV head coach and full time substitute teacher at his alma mater, St. Mary’s Ryken.
Beginning this fall, he will also be joining the Athletic Department as Head Boys Lacrosse Coach. Coach Baranowski played a season at Lemoyne (NY), leading the team to the NCAA Division II semifinals, before starting as a midfielder for three seasons with the Division II Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals.
A fun fact about Mr. Baranowski… “I love to be outside either fishing, hiking, biking, kayaking or skiing. I enjoy pickup lacrosse, basketball, and football. On a rainy day you will most likely find me either reading a history book or watching a war movie/documentary.”
Mr. Bottini returns to Goretti as the new Visual Art & Design Faculty. He is a member of the Goretti class of 1979 and will be teaching Introduction to Art, Drawing and Painting, 2D/3D Design, and Photography/Sculpture. Mr. Bottini graduated from Mount St. Mary’s University with a B.A. in Fine Art/Philosophy and also received his M.F.A. from Savannah College of Art and Design with President’s Honors and an Honorary Propes Fellowship. He brings 29 years of teaching experience and qualifications, including at the collegiate level, to the department. Additionally, Mr. Bottini hopes to assist with set design and get involved with student community service through design.
A fun fact about Mr. Bottini… “I loved my time at Goretti. I was on the first track team, was in all Spring Musicals (there was only one play back then). I hope to hear from students eager for an architectural drawing and methods class. I paint and exhibit nationally, love hiking, reading, and trying new restaurants.”
The Athletic Department welcomes Ms. Doina as new Head Athletic Trainer. In addition, Ms. Doina will teach Women’s Strength Training and Team Sports classes. Ms. Doina graduated from the University of Tampa in 2014 and from the University of South Florida in 2017. She has just relocated from Clearwater, FL where she worked at St. Petersburg High School. This is her fourth year as a certified athletic trainer.
A fun fact about Ms. Doina… “I’m hoping to get a dog soon! In my free time I enjoy running and hiking.”
Mrs. Lane also joins the Social Studies department teaching AP Government this year. A recent retired colonel of 30 years in the US Air Force, Mrs. Lane has a degree in Military History from the US Air Force Academy and a Masters in National Security Affairs from the US Naval Postgraduate School. She continues her support of the Air Force as an Admissions Liaison Officer, working with high school students who are pursuing an appointment to the USAF Academy or ROTC program. Her family resides in Hagerstown, while previously residing in California.
A fun fact about Mrs. Lane… “Last year we took our children on a 6 month trip around the world, traveling to 15 countries on 5 continents. I speak Turkish. And I love surfing.”
Mrs. Sherwin joins Goretti as the new Environmental Science Teacher. She graduated from Juniata College with a Bachelors of Science in Limnology/Biology and received her Masters of Environmental Science and Applied Ecology from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Previously, Mrs. Sherwin taught biology for 18 years at St. John’s Catholic Prep and has also worked as an environmental planner/scientist writing grants and preparing impact assessments for proposed development projects.
A fun fact about Mrs. Sherwin… “I love to fish and I keep and breed dart frogs for fun. I have several pet parrots.”
