Through the weeks of January 29 to February 10th, St. Maria Goretti students partnered with St. Mary Catholic School students in a Community Care Drive for Micah’s Backpack in celebration of Catholic Schools Week. All the donations of canned goods and personal-care items went toward restocking St. Mary Catholic Church’s pantry, which serves Salem Ave. Elementary School, as well as Marshall Street School. Yesterday, students delivered the canned items to Marshall Street School in Hagerstown, MD.
In total, students and families gathered 3,179 personal-care items and canned goods, 2,047 from St. Mary and 1, 132 from Goretti.
“It was in the spirit of Catholic Schools Week,” said Kerri Corderman, Goretti’s director of communications and development. “It was a great community effort. Everyone really joined together” (from The Herald Mail Media).
