GORETTI’S ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME

 Congratulations to our inductees!

 

dsc_0865 2016-2017 Inductees: 

Sarah “Skip” Ward of Hagerstown, Md. (posthumous inductee) – former Goretti  girls basketball coach in the 1950s and ‘60s. As a leader among the Hagerstown  community, Ward was inducted into the Washington County Sports Hall of Fame in its  inception.

Gary Fearnow, class of 1962 – baseball & basketball

John Robison, class of 1980 – soccer, basketball, and baseball.

Rodney Gibson, class of 2001 – basketball; was inducted into the Baltimore Catholic League (BCL) this past May.

This year’s ceremony also honored Goretti’s 1986-87 Boys Varsity Soccer team on the 30th anniversary of their 19-1 championship season. The following members of the team will be the recipients of the Fr. Charles Dausch Memorial Achievement Award: Ed Savino, Mike Kurtkya, Alex McAllister, Brian Muldowney, Donney Donegan, Brian Leach, Mike Long, Craig O’Connor, Rick Leimbach, Shawn Harkrader, Joe Gorman, Matt Lesky, Carlo DellaMea, Simon Thompson, Jim Jardinier, Jordan Clark, team manager Jim Malejko, and coach Jim Martin.

ALUMNI NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

Thomas Blake, University of North Dakota, Basketball

“The thing with today’s generation, you cannot have 14 stars on your roster. You need glue pieces. You need guys that want to serve one another. You need guys that help bring it together and do the little things… That is what he’s always done. I think because of his attitude and his work ethic, our guys really respect him, appreciate him and understand his value to our team…” -Head Coach Brian Jones.

Connor Zinaich, St. Andrews University, Basketball

St. Andrews was led this season by redshirt freshman forward Connor Zinaich (FR/Boonsboro, MD)’s 17.5 points/game ranking third in the AAC (507 points) and 8.9 rebounds (255 total) to rank in the top 3 in the conference in both categories. He also ranks in the top 10 in the NAIA in offensive rebounds/game while ranking 1st in the AAC. He also had 41 assists, 25 steals, 16 blocks, and 13 three-pointers as he was named as AAC Freshman of the Year. Zinaich was also named to the all-conference first team as well. Zinaich also won the AAC Player of the week award back on Feb. 6 for his multiple double-doubles and 35 point game.

Tyrus Fleetwood, Washington Adventist University, Basketball

Fleetwood, has been an exceptional floor general all season leading the team. Fleetwood, is currently averaging 15 ppg, 5 rpg, 3 apg, and poured in 23 points to lead the Shock in the conference championship.

Gavin Rajahpillay, Point Park University, Basketball

Point Park University junior guard Gavin Rajahpillay earned a spot on the All-River States Conference Men’s Basketball Second Team for 2016-17

Donte Doleman, Davis and Elkins, Basketball

Freshman Donte Doleman was also honored in the postseason Great Midwest Athletic All- Conference team list by being named to the All-Freshman team. The guard played in all 26 games and eventually worked his way into the starting lineup, finishing with 18 starts.
