What is a typical day of school for a Goretti Student?
Students arrive in homeroom by 8:15 a.m., and dismiss at 2:55 p.m. There are seven 47-minute classes in the day, and they are on a fixed schedule. There are two lunch shifts, the first of which begins at 10:59 a.m., and the second shift begins at 11:46 a.m. Each day begins with a prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance, and daily announcements. The Angelus is said before the first lunch, and the day ends with a prayer and additional announcements.
Do all Goretti Students wear uniforms?
Yes, all students are required to wear uniforms. The Summer uniform is worn from the first day of school through October, then again from April through the last day of school. The Winter uniform is worn from November through March, and does include a uniform shoe.
What extracurricular activities are available at Goretti?
Extracurricular activities are not required, but students are encouraged to participate. Goretti offers many clubs and activities from which to choose, and they can change based on the interests of the students. Currently, the following clubs and activities are offered: Student Council, Drama, Choir, Yearbook, Rock Band, National Honor Society, Photography Club, Service Club, National Art Honor Society, French National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Ski Club, Newspaper, Varsity Club, Homecoming Committee, Prom Committee, International Club, Science Club, Chess Club, Morning Star Rosary Group, Technology Club and Book Club. We proudly offer thirteen interscholastic sports, including: Boys & Girls Soccer, Basketball, & Lacrosse, Boys Baseball, Girls Volleyball, Softball, & Cheerleading, and Co-ed Golf, Tennis & Swimming.
What does it cost to attend Goretti?
Tuition for 2011 – 2012 is $10,750 for Catholic families, and $12,250 for non-Catholic families. Tuition payment plans are available. Other expenses include uniforms and books.
What foreign language classes are offered to students?
St. Maria Goretti High School offers two modern foreign languages: Spanish & French. Both languages have College Prep and Honors courses. Advanced Placement (AP) Spanish is also offered. Latin 1 and 2 are offered as a classical language.
What Advanced Placement (AP) courses are offered to students?
Advanced Placement Courses are offered for: Spanish, English Lit/Comp., English Lang./ Comp., Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, US History, European History, Government & Politics U.S., and Biology.
How many credits are required to Graduate?
Twenty-seven credits are required to graduate from St. Maria Goretti High School, including 4 English, 4 Math, 3 Science, 3 Social Studies, 2 Foreign Language (consecutive), 4 Religious Studies, 2 Physical Education & Health, 1 Fine Arts, and 4 Electives.
What is St. Maria Goretti High School’s grading system?
90-99 = A, 80-89 = B, 70-79 = C, 65-69 = D, Below 65 = 0 . Weighted grades are offered for Honors & AP classes.

Over the past five years 98% of St. Maria Goretti High School graduates have entered post secondary institutions while the other 2% have entered the military.

The Class of 2011 averaged 552 on the Critical Reading, 555 on Math and 551 on Writing under the new SAT testing. The total average score was 1658. The averages for State of Maryland: 1,498; United States: 1,500.
What is the average class size and student/teacher ratio?
We pride ourselves on these two items. The average class size is 12 and the student/teacher ratio is 9:1.
What is the total amount in college scholarships awarded to our graduating senior class?
The class of 2011 (53 students) earned over $4.6 million dollars in scholarships.
Is bus service available to St. Maria Goretti High School?
Round trip bus service is available from Frederick and Williamsport, MD, Chambersburg, PA, Martinsburg and Shepherdstown, WV. Greencastle, Waynesboro and Tuscarora School Districts in Pennsylvania provide transportation for students living in those districts.
Are forms for printing available on-line?
The application to enroll is available along with the form needed for a physical to play a sport. You will also find a form for medicine use during the school day that must be filled out and returned before medicine can be given at school. This form is very important as no student may carry or take medicine without proper paperwork. All medicines must be given through the office. There is also a form for donations. This form can be downloaded and printed for your convenience.
Does the school use an online grading system?
Yes, Edline is a program that students and parents can log into and check information and grades.
